Info-Travel Nurse Job Salaries

November 25, 2015 | By Conrad Lopez | Leave a Comment

I recently received this information from Soliant, a nursing staffing company and I thought it might be of interest to those of you interested in travel nurse jobs salaries. While this report appears to relate mostly to regular registered nurse positions those salary structures almost always are reflected in travel nurse job salaries, too. Here is the email I received……..

As you know, nursing is the single most common profession in America, with more than 3 million RNs alone. However, nursing salaries and hourly wages vary significantly across regions, workplaces, and employment circumstances.

To help put official statistics into perspective, Soliant recently compiled a full guide for nurses to understand the average pay for nurses nationwide, which I thought you and your readers might find interesting and hopefully useful.

URL: http://blog.soliant.com/careers-in-healthcare/nursing-pay-rates-explained/

For example:

  • While the average American RN makes about $32 an hour, or about $66,000 a year, California is the highest paying state in the country.  Median pay for RNs in California is $46.38/hour, or about $96,470/year and RNs in the modest 51,000-resident city of Watsonville, CA, typically make more than $65/hour, or about $136,570 per year.
  • Nursing salaries vary not only between states and cities, but also between specialized knowledge and skills, positions, and environment. For example, while a staff nurse in an occupational health department might make a medium annual salary of $78,060, a transplant coordinator can bring in an average $81,333.

Can I bring my dog along on a travel nursing job?

September 12, 2015 | By Conrad Lopez | 2 Comments

pets and travel nursing jobs

My dog, Marley

Just about every two or three months someone asks this question. Dogs, cats, birds…whatever.

I have a dog and understand. I can see where not being able to bring along your trusted Fido might easily put the kibosh on taking off on a travel nursing assignment. To some people, dogs are family. At the very least, finding a temporary home for a dog for a thirteen week travel nurse job would be a daunting task. I wouldn’t even know where to start.

Travel nursing agencies understand this too. Because they are in the business of trying to convince you to take an assignment with them they are going to bend over backwards to find you housing that can accommodate your pet. I would venture to say that almost all agencies can come up with some solution to this problem. There may be deposits involved but I doubt that your little buddy is going to stop you from getting the job you want.

[adsanity id=1322 align=alignleft /]My advice? Make sure you have the type of pet that can handle apartment living. Once you’re sure of this, make sure you talk to the housing manager at the agencies you are considering and get a firm answer on this before you commit.

What locations are available for travel nursing jobs

October 25, 2012 | By Conrad Lopez | Leave a Comment

Good question. After all, this is what it’s all about right?

The fact is, in this day and age of the notorious “nursing shortage” your options are almost without boundary. (I’m talking about the United States right now but we’ll address international assignments in later postings.)

Some of this is just common sense. Larger metropolitan areas will have bigger needs for healthcare pros such as yourself. Communities with greater proportions of retired people will also have greater needs. But think about this. Todays retirement population of baby boomers are leaving the workplace in greater numbers then before and at younger ages where they are active and interested in having fun, active lives. They are going to places that lots of people want to live, (or go on travel nursing assignments.

Near Yosemite

Places like Florida, California, and Hawaii have tons of travel nursing jobs for this reason. But they aren’t alone. Virtually any of the larger cities in all fifty states have traveling nurse jobs. Many smaller communities face staffing problems because the younger folks are bailing out to go to the “bright city lights.” There are many pearls out there….small, friendly towns with lots to offer an adventurous soul.

So what I am trying to say is that there are almost unlimited choices. Keep an open mind and consider places you’ve never been to. Research the areas you think you might be interested in. Check the various seasons weather patterns and what the region may offer you on your times off.

One of my goals on my travel site, www.travelnursingUSA is to provide that kind of information along with the contact information for state nursing boards. If you want to see what is there for an area you are interested in you can go to www.travelnursingusa.com/resources and click on the state you want information about.-Conrad

Some interesting travel nursing destinations

January 20, 2012 | By Conrad Lopez | Leave a Comment

I have just put up a bunch of new travel nursing jobs from a couple of travel nursing agencies and you may want to take a look.

There is an OR RN job listed in Baltimore, a great community in Maryland at a major facility.

Glendale, California is near Los Angeles (in fact very near Dodger Stadium if you like baseball!). Being in the LA basin it means you are close to beaches, Hollywood, mountains and entertainment venues such as Disneyland and Universal Studios. I’ve put up a critical care RN travel nursing job with a 13 week assignment.

I also put a CVICU travel nursing position in Reno, Nevada. Reno is a fun, fun town with very good access to skiing going along with everything else there. Check it out.

If these don’t tickle your fancy look for something that does travel nursing jobs. I’ve got over 500 travel nursing jobs listed there.
