I love this question! Travel nursing is not a singles club. There are lots of people who bring their spouses, kids, friends, partners and you mane it.
Obviously all of the regular working parent issues apply. Childcare comes to mind. School is probably a big issue. Assignments are normally for 13 weeks but they are almost always renewable. If your children are school aged I would think you would want to plan your assignment around the school year and plan to stay for at least two “tours of duty.”
Depending on the agency and the assignment, you may want to take a housing allowance instead of what they provide. That way you can get your own family-style housing.
I think it is a great idea. I grew up in a military family that moved around a bit and I think it was a big plus in teaching me to adjust to new surroundings and meet new people. In retrospect, I truly belienve it made me a better person. I wouldn’t suggest moving the kids every 13 weeks but if you do it right you can give your children a real learning experience by having them live and meet people from other parts of the United States.
