Men In Nursing, GREAT article!

January 2, 2018 | By Conrad Lopez | Leave a Comment

Every once in a while I get an email from a man asking for my thoughts on what sort of career nursing is for a man. It seems to me that in 2020 this kind of thinking is a bit arcane. On the other hand, who am I to judge?

If you are wondering what I think, well, men in nursing is a natural fit for almost all of the same reasons it is for a woman. But being real, there may be issues in the workplace when one sex is dominant in the employee mix.

This article talks about males in nursing. And for a true life story about a great guy who is an RN see the other link below.

This might be the best men in nursing article I have ever read. The New York Times has just published it.

If you have someone (a man LOL) who may want to consider nursing and might have reservations….well this is a very encouraging article.

From a personal perspective, I happen to think it is a great profession for anyone. This guy to the left is a pretty good example LOL He is known as The Singing Nurse.

This article addresses the “stigma” (we men are a real pain in the ass) of working in a female-dominated profession.

I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on this. HERE is a link to the article.

Ebola and the Quarantine

October 27, 2014 | By Conrad Lopez | Leave a Comment

This mornings news is full of stories about Ebola. At the forefront are stories of various states imposing quarantines for healthcare professionals returning from African Symptoms_of_ebolanations that are the center of the crisis.

One side of public opinion seems to be scared to death and willing to impose these 21 day strict lock ups while the other side is afraid it is Draconian and will impede the supply of healthcare workers willing to go and help.

As nurses I am curious what you, the ones right there in “the line of fire” think.

Are the quarantines kthe right way to keep this Ebola crisis from spreading?

Let your opinion be known in the comments!

It’s Nice in Nice

June 22, 2014 | By Conrad Lopez | Leave a Comment

I really like Nice, France. Others don’t always agree with me but I think it is a good base station to explore the French Riviera region from.

Why do I like it? Well, it’s a good sized city so it has everything you need from that perspective. Restaurants, museums, night life and beaches are all right there. They imagehave a tram which will get you from one section of town to the next for $1.50 euros (or a24 hour pass for 5 euros.

The train station is right in the middle of town (and close to the tram). You can jump on it and in a half hour be in Monaco or Cannes!

My favorite part of the city is Old Town, also known as Vieille Ville. It is full of wonderful cafés, bars, and most gloriously the best “farmers market” you will ever find anywhere.

imageAfter a few days here it is easy to get to Paris, Barcelona, Italy or almost anywhere else in Europe as Nice has both a major airport and a major train station offering both regional and high speed TGV train service.
