Well, for the uninitiated let’s discuss what it is and in the scheme of things I think I will end up answering the question.
A “local” travel nurse contract is simply someone who wants to take a “travel” assignment in the area they already live in. Why do this? Well, a travel agency has a laundry list of benefits that they provide the traveling nurse. One of the biggies is the housing. It is a major expense and a major headache for the agency and most of them are prepared to skip all of that effort and simply write you a check for some negotiated figure and let you handle your housing on your own.
This could be because you already live there, you just want to do it yourself or you have a roomate situation that allows you to pocket some of the housing expense.
So to answer your question, a local travel nurse contract is not much different then a regular traveling nurse contract except that the housing benefit is broken out.

I thought in order to be considered a travel nurse you had to live over 60 miles away from your permanent residence. Can you still take a travel assignment if you live closer than 60 miles from the place of employment? Thank you.
